MARK 29 MICHELLE 25 SOPHIE 5 LEWIS 3 ALSO A UNBORN BABY. MORE than 500 mourners packed into Doncaster Minster today for the moving funeral of an entire family killed by a fire at their home in Highfields.
Three hearses were needed to convey the coffins of Mark Colley, aged 29, and wife Michelle, 25, and their two children to the Church of St George.
The first two contained the bodies of the parents and the third, the most poignant, had two small white coffins side by side for little Sophie and Lewis, aged five and three.
The cortege arrived at the Minster as the church clock struck 10.45am and pallbearers took the coffins containing Mark and Michele inside first, followed by the two children, whose hearse was adorned with numerous white floral tributes in the shape of teddy bears and rabbits.
They all died following a severe blaze at their house in South Street on March 29 and doctors were unable to save Mrs Colley's unborn child, who was to be named Ashton.
Rev Stephen Gardner, the Vicar of Highfields and Woodlands, told the gathered mourners: "Today is a day none of us has been looking forward to. Days do not get much more painful than this, it is indeed the worst of times, yet we have come, so many of us.
"We come to remember, to remember this family, all that they meant to their family, to Highfields School, to the village of Highfields and the wider communities in Doncaster, for this loss has affected the whole town."
After a 30 minute service the coffins were returned to the hearses and traffic on Church Way was halted as the cortege made its way to Rose Hill for a private cremation.
